Research Study Report - Towards Adoption of BIM in Building Services Engineering in Hong Kong

Research Study Report - Towards Adoption of Building Information Modelling (BIM) in Building Services Engineering in Hong Kong

BIM has become popular in recent years and are applied in many projects. In view of this recent trend, the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers - Building Services Division (HKIE-BSD) and the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers - Hong Kong Branch (CIBSE-HKB) jointly took initiative to collaborate with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) to conduct a research study with industry players from the building services engineering (BSE) sector. The ultimate goal of this is to promote the adoption of BIM in the BSE industry in Hong Kong.

A BIM Research Study Report was completed in October 2016. Subsequently a focus forum on “The Readiness of BIM for Building Services Engineering” with the relevant industry stakeholders was conducted in February 2017. In the forum, the speakers shared with the audience the findings of the above research. The Construction Industry Council (CIC) also explained its 2017 roadmap of BIM to the participants and the BSE industry stakeholders exchange with one another their views of how to get the BSE industry ready for the BIM implementation.
